Using 12.04.5 on a i386 system. On my conky I always read 0% on the batt and I guess it does not work ? I installed "fdpowermon" and added it to the "autostart" menu of "lxsession-default-apps" and now I've a nicely working bettery-charge-discharge icon on my desktop.
MY TESTBED: Dell Studio 1737. With two hard disks, multibooting with Windows 10, Sparky (debian) 4.2 KDE and of course LXLE 64 bits 14.04.4 using XP paradigm

Slight problem was that automatic login didn't work. LXLE only wanted to run with username and password (which is better in any case, of course). LXLE is simply the most sensible and especially most loved option for me, even when 'heavier' distros should run without a problem on the newer Thinkpad.

Installed easy with the 32bit version 14.x Buttons work, wifi good, random shutdowns that it did running XP have ceased. Was also able to install via deb pkgs Opera developer and an older 32bit version of Chrome, then force in Adblock Plus and get Flash to behave.
Tweaks: Reduced the swap-thing from 60 to 10
Notes, have been doing PC hardware since 1989. First time a linux install has not frustrated the heck out of me and sent me grumbling back to XP, previously tinyXP, win99 and other bizarro MS re-rolls. Congrats + Thanks !!!
But then I try a second older HP laptop..... (see Hp 2100 to follow)
