    LXLE 12.04.05 32bit
Very usable again. Not bad for a laptop from 2003!
Look at the youtube video to see it's performance:
(please look at the description why the video is not as good as LXLE..).

  • 8 Year old Dell inspiron E1505. Loving the low CPU and memory footprint. I have actually never seen this hardware play 1080p video smoothly before installing LXLE. Video plays smoothly in 1080p with minitube and VLC, and 720p in youtube HTML5 (the latter at 95% CPU).

Flash video and minitube in minimized (non full screen) view have crackling sound.
    I tried tsched=0 in /etc/pulse/default.pa as per
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting
but crackling persists. (No crackling on full screen minitube, youtube HTML5 or VLC. youtube.com/live uses flash only.)

TLP did not suspend the laptop on lid close, so I worked around using xfce4-power-manager, which this hardware can afford at 2GB RAM.

Funny enough since we are speaking of tlp, thats probably whats also causing the crackling sound. http://lxle.net/forum/#/discussion/439/lxle-14-04-strange-repeating-cracklingpopping-sound/p1
  • Thanks for the link @lxle I've seen that thread but I have TLP uninstalled, so the settings file /etc/default/tlp no longer exists in my installation. The sound crackling in flash video and downscaled HD has unfortunately persisted through uninstallation of TLP.

    4 RAM: 1 GB DDR3
5 Video card: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3600
LXLE 14.04 works well, unlike Windows 7 Starter which is pre-loaded on this netbook. The only problem with LXLE I've found so far is that many of its games don't work - the sound works but the screen is blank. Can anyone suggest what might cause that?

    Which games?
  • @lxle
Biniax - Works but is windowed only.
Chromium BSU - Works windowed. Doesn't work full-screen: blank screen with enlarged mouse pointer only.
CriticalMass - Goes straight to full-screen: blank screen with enlarged mouse pointer only.
DreamChess - Works fine in full-screen.
FloboPuyo - Goes straight to full-screen: blank screen.
Hearts - Works in both window and full-screen.
LBreakout2 - Works in window; full-screen is blank.
