Revisited is 32bit ~ why would I prefer that over the 64bit version?

No, not going through that for a battery app.  image

14.04 64 bit and 12.04.4 revisited are essentially the same, there are a couple battery indicator in synaptic you can use if you don't want to move on to either of those, which i totally understand.

I posted a lengthier reply in the Laptop/Notebook thread.

But to sum up ~ with the LTS 12.04.4 I'm quite satisfied and can live with the tools available.

Thanks for the comments & suggestions!

You might like xbattbar, which you can find in synaptic, its very low resource, and I really seriously considered using it for LXLE. That might be a decent solution for you.

Appreciate the pointer ~ I searched 'battery' and 'laptop' in Synaptic and came up with laptop-mode-tools which totally hosed the install ~ later found out that it is not recommended.  (Why the hell they don't remove it from the repositories is beyond me.)

I'll check out the xbattbar ~ and again, I'm thankful for your help!

I found this article, related to the battery app issue ~ specifically to LXLE!

    http://all-tech-thoughts.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/how-to-add-battery-applet-to-lxle.html

How To Add a Battery Applet To LXLE

I noticed after some use of the excellent LXLE distro on my Dell D430,
that there was no battery monitor installed by default. There is an
ASCII type monitor in the menu but not an applet, so I did a bit of
Googling and found this little how-to
for LXDE in Lubuntu/Mint. I had to modify that a little. I shall
reproduce the entire method here anyway in case that page disappears.

Install fdpowermon in the same way with:

    sudo apt-get install fdpowermon

Next up it's slightly different since the sessions are different in
    LXLE. There are 5 sessions: G2-Paradigm, Netbook-Paradigm, OSX-Paradigm,
Unity-Paradigm and XP-Paradigm so replace as appropriate.

    gksu gedit /etc/xdg/lxsession/XP-Paradigm/autostart

Then append @fdpowermon as in the original how-to like so:

Save the file and exit, then logout and login and you'll now have a battery monitor applet, and we're done!

Thanks, please be aware fdpowermon uses up to 30 megs just to display a battery. Which I think is really high, but will do the trick, in comparison xbattbar uses 1 meg and using conky to display batter usage uses about the same.

I knew there was a fish hook in there somewhere!  image
  • xbattbar works great!
i had to run it with -c to get battery status from ACPI.

In the current release of LXLE both 14.04 and 12.04.4 battery status is reported via conky in the top right corner.
