    I think moving on is a better and easier option than staying on with LXDE and then doing a QT ... but LXLE will have a correct and better answer.

    I'm still voting for openbox plus tint2 panel. You can even make your own control panel....

    Also, looks like LXDE is still continuing as a project ... and hence LUBUNTU can certainly continue with LXDE ...

    LXLE can safely continue using LXDE and we hope the 18.04 LTS will be out very soon.

    And Raspberry PI OS Desktop for PC and Mac also uses LXDE ... so some major people are joining LXDE
