New to Linux and LXLE, but have installed LXLE on a testbed machine. Since LXLE is specifically engineered to breathe new life into old machines (Testbed is a Pentium-M, 1.25 GB RAM max) I must keep as close to the original load as possible.
How do I load new themes and icons into LXLE without loading other programs like Cinnamon Tweaks?
LXLE is running nicely on that CPU and amount of RAM. Knowing very little of actually *how* to implement changes to a Linux machine, I have been reading extensively about this question before posting. The only threads I saw comparable to this topic are from years ago:
My problem is that when I download a Zipped theme and icon package from a repository, create .icons and .themes folders and unzip the files into those directories, I am not seeing the new icon choices in the LXappearance utility ("Customize Look and Feel.").
https://pkgs.org/ is a library of various packages. Deb files are installed using package manager. All you need to do is to download the .deb package and click on it to install the theme. If you cannot find the icon theme at that webpage try browsing this blog titled "Top 35 Ubuntu Themes".
I prefer to download individual PNGs or create them myself, then manually place them in ~/.icons
FYI - I think what was the problem was that File Manager (PCmanFM) did not have root permissions, and thus FM could not extract, move or install files.
LXLE himself assisted by offering:
"Open File Manager (PCmanFM) as Root, with permissions
