Hello, as per my
introduction I have been experiencing nVidia problems on Mint 16 and
17 and Ubuntu 14.04, 14.10.
The symptoms have
been when I boot into the live image I end up with a desktop without
a taskbar or mouse cursur. That means I cannot perform any tasks. Not
even to run the install command.
Later I read about
having to first install the driver in safe graphics mode. In case of
Mint I had to
press F4 to go into
safe graphics or comaptibility mode. This way I could get a proper
desktop to allow me to install the image. Once installed I still had
to find a way to boot into safe graphics mode to install the
appropriate nVidia drivers.
I put up this
question on the Mint forum as early as last March which got over 70
views but only one reply two nights ago. LUBUNTU more or less the
same. Strangely the latest version of Linux Lite was fine based on
Ubuntu 12.04 is fine but it bit too light for me.
Unfortunately, LXLE
had the same graphics problems, although it manifested this slightly
differently. For example when I boot into the image I notice the
mouse and touchpad arrow and cursur are hidden.
Pressing F4 on boot
does bring up compatibility mode as in Mint. So I have no idea how
to get safe graphic pre or post install.
I am totally baffled
why this exact issue has not been properly flagged by the two big
players at Ubuntu Mint. There are plenty people using my graphics
card.
My hardware is a
five year old Sager NP9280 Intel i7 quad core nVidia Gforce GTX 280M.
Here is the solution
I found to eventually install Mint 17.

I have no problem
paying for the support as long as it is responsive and provide
results.
If you can show me
how to get into compatibility mode in LXLE to install the OS please
let me and get my Cannon Lide 200 scanner to work please let me know.
Having said that, I
would much prefer to make sure LXLE is as robust has robust support
for my scanner before full comital. I don't want to spend another
three days havign to trouble shoot and thereore hope your support
would be more responsive than Mint/Ubuntu. Again, I am more than
happy to pay for your time.
I look forward to
your feedback.
