Hi, I connected this scanner & turned it on & got nothing, not even the normal start up sounds it usually makes. Even though this is an old scanner, it is in perfect condition & it works fine in Win 7 64. I bought it new when it 1st came out & it hasn't seen all that much use & I tend to take care of my things. googling this I found that Epson had some Linux drivers that were made around 2011 called Kowa or Kekowa but it looks like these drivers are no longer supported in newer 64 bit linux versions. As a total linux newbie I'm not even sure if I read all the above info correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks again Jim
Hi lxle - this scanner is not a printer or an all -in-one, it's only a scanner & I think they came out in 2004-05. My printer is a Brother HL2170 & it picked that up as soon as I turned it on, 2 clicks & it was installed & ready to go ( which was WAAY easier than the Windows driver install). When I was dual booting XP & Mepis 5 or 6 yrs. ago, I could not even get my Canon printer to work at all, so Linux has really come a long way since then. Another thing that really blows me away is that I have sound working. This computer has an old Auzentech sound card & I was told I would never get sound to work in Linux unless I switched to onboard sound or bought a different sound card. But I think this scanner might be a problem. I turned it on & then power light lit up & then I went to menu>graphics>simple scan & it does not find my scanner. It's kinda wierd, but every day I use LXLE, something new starts working that didn't initially work right; somewhat like unwrapping a new gift each day, kinda cool actually! Anyway, thanks again.
The only choice you have is to google your scanner for linux drivers. Someone may have found a fix. If not and you have an extra licensed copy of xp or other windows laying around, you might be able to set up a virtual pc and run it through that. But first you should run lsusb (if it's a usb scanner) in a terminal to see if linux even recognizes it.
Hi all - thanks for all the replies. Other than rfry85's comment, I don't even understand what you are telling me. But here is lsusb output: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 04b8:0116 Seiko Epson Corp. So linux sees my scanner. Now what? I installed 'sane' & ran sudo gedit /etc/sane.d/dll.conf then I looked at that file & both 'epson' & epson2' were in the file. epson did not have the # in front of it ( I think I already took it out) how do I run Xane? thanks
Like "Simple Scan", "Xsane" is another featureful graphical frontend for SANE, as you already had "Simple Scan" pre-installed in lxle, you don't need to install Xsane.
