Power Management
  • I don't have issues with computers, but sometimes I wonder where the designers of accessories hide their brains?

    I recently bought a cheap keyboard and mouse from the store. The new keyboard sports three keys; Power, Sleep, Wake up.  I never use them.  But they are positioned directly after the function keys F1 to F12 and I happen to have a macro tied to F12. So I will miss and hit Power shutting the system down.  Below the Power is Print Screen and if I miss, the computer shuts down instead of snagging that screenshot!

    My solution is very simple but hard to find on internet searching.

    As Root user edit the file; /etc/systemd/logind.conf
    Uncomment and change these lines;
    HandlePowerKey=ignore
    HandleSuspendKey=ignore

    Then save.

    Now my fat fingers can tap dance all over the new keyboard ... until it breaks.  Like I said, cheap keyboard. The old cheap mouse still works, but I put it aside as a backup.  The keyboard and mouse is a combo package from the Onn brand for $17 in case you were curious what I meant by cheap.
