Make your own judgments about its author. Pretentious comes to mind.

His memory usage of LXLE with 2 gigs of ram. Obviously there are some apps open that are not mentioned. As you can see he also change the theme to a awful brown that doesn't match the OS.

Here is the real memory usage of LXLE with no apps (besides taking the screenshot) open on a computer with 2 gigs of ram.

Some among many Inconsistencies as was also done with his review of Lubuntu.

Mind you this is the same desktop environment with the same basic layout. Apps used in LXLE are both gnome and kde apps.

    LXLE review quotes

The only problem was the slow and not very productive work flow caused directly by the desktop itself.  There are so many programs included, so varied and different and non-uniform in looks and purpose. To name a few, Steam, Marble, KeePass, Filezilla, Pidgin, Transmission, LibreOffice, The visual side needs immense improvement, because the way it's designed, LXLE is not a pleasant, enduring product.

    Claimed 330 in ram usage.

Picture of apps after he changed the theme to an awful brown & white before taking his screenshot.

Now for his review of the same desktop environment added to his existing Ubuntu OS.

    https://web.archive.org/web/20171129171027/http://netrunner-mag.com/2013/01/28/introducing-lxde/

It does not harm your productivity in any way, it merely slightly rearranges the way your desktop looks and behaves, but it’s a minor change. You are not hampered in the way you use your programs, which is the most important bit. You can still keep on using all your Gnome, KDE or other software, and they all blend in without any hassle. LXDE had no problem with the Cheese webcam, Kdenlive, GIMP 2.8, or even Skype.

Still, LXDE is decent, good-looking and fairly fast, plus it maintains a traditional approach to computing, so there’s no reason you should not take it for a spin and see what it can offer you.

    Claimed 330 in ram usage.

Screenshot of apps with a theme he thinks looks good.

    That review is extremely stupid!
For some reason he chose to pretty much hate this distro - but the weird thing is that he actually primarily reports positive things about it - and then he completely misses the fact that to accomplish these things is exactly what Lxle promises to do - and that such an achievement of actually facilitating close-to-ancient hardware to work out-of-the-box is awesomely great and extremely rare. He obviously didn't even understand the most basic stuff about the distro before writing the review.
And the few negative things he writes are either simply wrong (like "Finally, there's the question of relevance, because you can get all of the above with very little effort from stock Ubuntu, or just by making some tiny changes to one of its less resource hungry official derivatives."), are caused by his own doing (like messing up the design) or are completely undocumented (He writes a couple of times, that there are better solutions - but fails to mention them!?).
If he doesn't like the design he has the right to his opinion - but who cares what some snotty teenager (and I'm not talking about his biological age) thinks in that regard? If he doesn't like that whole kind of design he would be better of realizing the simple logical fact that this disqualifies him from reporting anything useful about it. If I really don't like any kind of apple it would make no sense to write an "expert"-review telling the world what I think of the taste of one specific kind of apple.
Normally I'm all for peace, love, not being judgmental and not freaking out over small stuff - but there are a couple of reasons that I find this review disgusting: First of all I strongly dislike someone badmouthing something great especially if they have no argument at all for doing so - and secondly it is damn hard work for a beginner like me to acquire useful info - and garbage like this review can just make it a lot harder because it is grossly misleading.
I don't blame him for writing the review - I just blame him for publishing it.
I haven't seen this review featured on Distrowatch or any place else - but if I do, I will write them and ask them to cancel it. And I'm tempted to write this guy and tell him that it would be better for him to edit it than to embarrass himself like this.

thx but don't bother, he writes them to get a rise out of people. That is what he would want you to do.

Ok, but what worries me is not really him publishing garbage (If I was that sensitive I would not be able to move freely on the web or in the streets :D) but the fact that serious sites like Distrowatch links to his reviews?! Even if some of his other writings are of a different quality I would never do that because the people that have the hardest time distinguishing that would also be the ones that needed it the most - and linking to his reviews in general is kind of vouching for his writings.

I didn't see any linking to his review of lxle at distrowatch.

There isn't. But they link to other reviews by him.

He uses his credentials to be pretentious, bias and narcissistic something he admits to on his about page. Those individuals get under my skin at first then I usually just write them off. As I am entitled to my opinion about his reviews he is entitled to his opinions about whatever he is writing about. He strikes me as a man with many agendas both apparent and hidden.

Yeah, I'll just let it go.
I actually did read a bit of his about page when I first saw the review - because I got curious to who could be so stupid - but I never got to the part where he describes himself as being narcissistic - because I felt kind of sick, so I just stopped reading. If he is actually trying to give the impression of narcissism, I think he's doing a pretty decent job :)
