For this we will be using FM Custom Actions (nautilus-actions-config-tool) . A quick warning. Fm Custom Actions seems to be a little flaky. So I recommend that you save your action after every line, to avoid having to retype to many entries. This app seems to, for no apparent reason suddenly stop saving information, at which point you just have to restart it. But after you get your action set up they work just fine.

To keep from cluttering the right click menu we can set filters so the action only shows up at the appropriate time.

    Ok on with it.

Go to menu/system tools/fm custom actions

Click on "define a new action" button under the file menu. Now under the Action tab give it a name (remember to use the save button under the edit menu every time you fill in a box) , chose a icon if you wish, and make sure "Display in selection context menu" is checked. Here's mine...

Now click on the "command" tab and set yours to match mine...

Now click on the "mime types" tab and copy my settings. You have to click the add button for each new line. After editing the "mime type" filter box, you have to press enter to keep it, and as always press the save button after every row. If it won't save just restart the app.

Now close FM Custom Actions, Log out and back in. Now your new action should show up for most documents except for Excel 97 spread sheets. For some reason I can't find a mime type that works for it on my pc.

    Here's the work around...
Create a new action. My action tab ...

    My Command Tab...

Now we won't change the "mime type" tab, but instead the "base name" tab. Here is Mine...

Ok, just do the logout & in and enjoy!

    PS
I, also should add, this is for the pcmanfm (Filemanager) and desktop only, although they should work in thunar and nautilus.

That desktop looks like lawsuit bait.  ;)

    Nice info, though!
  • Yep, I probably ought to switch it back to normal! Well, maybe not normal, but safer!
