disappearing Synaptic PM and Update Manager

    When I try to update via System Tools > Update Manager the manager opens up for about 2 seconds and then vanishes. I then try to open Synaptic Package Manager but the same thing happens. There is no evidence of them on the task bar. I reboot but no better. I have never had this problem before.

    Open a terminal then type the following

    sudo apt-get update

    THEN
    sudo apt-get upgrade

    Thanks lxle; that seems to have solved the problem. I would love to know what was going on if you have time to respond.

    Probably just a configuration file was jacked and needed replace, not sure though taking a wild guess.
