Can't save changes in terminal

    When I change the background and font in the terminal and save, it returns to the default next boot up. Am I missing something here?

    I assume you are using the Sakura terminal emulator and not a replacement.
      
    ~/.config/sakura/sakura.conf  file should contain the color theme you selected in the first 3 lines after the header line [sakura].  Further down in the configuration file you should see;
    last_colorset=1
    ...
    font=Andale Mono Bold 14
    (whatever you picked as font and size)
