Both Panels Missing
  • I booted my laptop today and after a longer than normal boot time the desktop appeared less the top and bottom panels.  I first shutdown and rebooted with the same outcome but I did notice that the panels appeared to start (showing just grey bars) and then disappeared.  I did find I could right click on the desktop and gain access to applications so I tried the package manager and run update all packages.  Still on panels after a reboot.

I searched the forums and found: https://www.lxle.net/forums/discussion/957/restore-default-panels following the instructions with our errors and no luck, still no panels.

I'm more than happy to provide logs if an expert can point me in the right direction.

I'm running Lxle 32 bit on a Aser Aspire 8930.  Since I have run an update I'm assuming I have the latest Lxle version installed

try manually copying the /etc/skel/.config/lxpanel/ directory to your home .config directory
  • Thanks lxle for replying.  Unfortunately the suggested fix failed. I even remove the lxpanel directory from my .config directory then copied the backups.  No joy.

I looked through the various log files for "lxpanel" and found the following:

an incomplete update may have occurred.. try updating the system and restarting.
  • Thanks Lxle,

I ran update using using Synaptic Package Manager and it did install some updates but did not resolve the problem.

I also ran Edit - Fix Broken Packages with out error but did not resolve the issue.

Next I tried forcing reinstall of: sessioninstaller, gnome-system-tools, lxsession, openbox-lxde-session.  I did test each install before continuing to the next.

What I'd did notice earlier was that if I ran lxpanel with no parameters then I got a panel at,the bottom of the screen.  However if I ran lxpanel --profile LXLE "a floating point exception (core dump)" was returned.

In fact as I'm writing this there are 18 further updates available.  I have now installed them and no change, no panels.

Where can I post the log file to please.

  • Lxle,

Reatempted sending the crash file to pastebin which is 2.3MiB and pastebin is limited to 512kB. I also tried to look for an alternative bu was unsuccessful.
