I booted my laptop today and after a longer than normal boot time the desktop appeared less the top and bottom panels. I first shutdown and rebooted with the same outcome but I did notice that the panels appeared to start (showing just grey bars) and then disappeared. I did find I could right click on the desktop and gain access to applications so I tried the package manager and run update all packages. Still on panels after a reboot.
Thanks lxle for replying. Unfortunately the suggested fix failed. I even remove the lxpanel directory from my .config directory then copied the backups. No joy.
I looked through the various log files for "lxpanel" and found the following:

I ran update using using Synaptic Package Manager and it did install some updates but did not resolve the problem.
I also ran Edit - Fix Broken Packages with out error but did not resolve the issue.
Next I tried forcing reinstall of: sessioninstaller, gnome-system-tools, lxsession, openbox-lxde-session. I did test each install before continuing to the next.
What I'd did notice earlier was that if I ran lxpanel with no parameters then I got a panel at,the bottom of the screen. However if I ran lxpanel --profile LXLE "a floating point exception (core dump)" was returned.
In fact as I'm writing this there are 18 further updates available. I have now installed them and no change, no panels.
Reatempted sending the crash file to pastebin which is 2.3MiB and pastebin is limited to 512kB. I also tried to look for an alternative bu was unsuccessful.
