Eee Top netbooks - hotkeys for Boot Device Selection and Bios Setup Utilities

Tricky business with Asus Eee Top netbooks, finding the hotkeys that work for booting into Boot Device Selection screen and Bios Setup Utilities screens.
Success seems to vary, from computer to computer.
Three keys seems to work in various ways, and on my netbook, the frustration was great as the results were not consistant - perhaps hardware problems, I don't know. Windows XP was installed, and would immediately go to Windows start up, no matter what I tried. Then suddenly, it worked, for no particular reason.- F2
- ESC
- DEL
What worked today was to press F2 after power on. Then just when the Eee screen appears, I pressed ESC. This brought up the Boot Device Selection screen.
The combination seemed to be the solution. Although, on other occasions, it worked perfectly with just ESC. This is a mystery.
