Feedback as new LXLE user
  • I had to write something to congratulate the developers of this wonderful, amazing operating system, I've been using it for some days and I keep on loving it more and more each day! I just checked LXLE to try it and it is now my OS. It's been almost a week since I logged to Windows 10, not kidding.
So congratulations on a job very well done!

As a suggestion I'm only going to point out some small details that can make the OS more user friendly to the curious noob people like me that don't know much about Linux, some stuff to make LXLE more user friendly out of the box:

    - include a brightness control icon on the top right bar, next to the sound icon;
    - set by default the touchpad to be blocked when typing (it's not on by default and makes the typing experience a real challenge)
    - include a Force Quit (xkill) icon on the top bar
    - set Pluma as the default app to open text files because Notepad is too slow to open, specially with large files
    - don't forget to put the screenshot app on the install packege (at least for me it wasn't there, as I pressed printscreen I just got an error of the app not found)
    - include an app to set the mouse scroll wheel
    - include CompizConfig bu default, it's very handy to change video settings.

So these are just suggestions that inexperienced users like me would love to have.

Thank you very much for everything and keep up with the good work!

-Disks (gnome-disks) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNOME_Disks lightweight disk info utility
-Image Viewer (gpicview) http://lxde.sourceforge.net/gpicview/ ultra lightwight image viewer

I think everyone has their own favorite software. But if you ask me , by and far, LXLE has some of the best software choices available out of the box.

Yea I miss systemback, but then I can just add it myself and add/remove the few things that make LXLE work for me.

LXLE  has proven to be a very dependable, OS which comes with a great selection of software, though not always my favorite applications, it still gets the job done.

For sure, that's one of the three things that made me like LXLE so much. When I checked out LXLE for the first time just as I checked out many other Linux distros, I remember being so curious about every software installed in LXLE that I tried them all. It really was an excellent selection of apps, I believe the most complete and useful selection I've ever seen in a distro out of the box.

I tried LXLE in the same day I tried Lubuntu and it really was a no brainer choice for me (being a noob) because Lubuntu looked almost empty when compared to LXLE, so the choice for me was obvious.

By the way the other two things that caught my eye in LXLE were it being ultra fast (most important factor at the end of the day) and the beautiful wallpapers (and the ability to change them with one click).

Being a regular user that comes from Windows the things I look for is simplicity and easiness. I don't have much time to spare for searching apps and I totally lack knowledge so it's very important for me 'having it all there'. For noobs like me I think the best I could have to get me wrapped around the finger is to have a full set of apps out of the box to do everything (not literally of course) and a page of links for suggested must have big apps according the personal usage like Wine, Kodi or Genymotion.

awww shucks, lol, the software choices are more than just 'favorite' picks. They are also decided by factors like, additional libraries needed, whether they support gtk properly within lxde, gets the job done without wanting to install the 'real/better' version, overall aesthetics and most importantly the system impact and or footprint.

Here here.  Been using LXLE for more than a year now and love it.  Also have Windows 10 as dual boot, but only really use it once a year to do my taxes (Turbotax does not work on LXLE).

To use LXLE, have had to make a few compromises and use a few work arounds, but all in all, a very happy user.  Congrats lxle.

Much as I like LXLE, I've changed to a different distribution because I could not burn discs. This is a problem that has been around for some time and it's surprising that this fault has not been corrected !
