Security on LXLE-general.list
  • I am concerned that the public web-based version of the mailing list shows names and email addresses of members.
While there is an attempt to obscure addresses, it is ineffective in some cases, as show in the link above, yahoo, gmail address are easy to guess.

I do not know who administers the mailing list, I thought is was MailMan because their documentation says
"The HTML archives which are created by Pipermail (the
archiving program which comes default with Mailman) contain only
obscured addresses. Other archiving programs are available and can
do different levels of obfuscation to make addresses less readable.
    "

When I sent email to mailman-security@python.org
Mark Sapiro kindly replied "This is a Sourceforge archive and is not generated by GNU Mailman's

pipermail. You need to address this complaint to Sourceforge. GNU Mailman's pipermail doesn't generate archives that look like this. You need to address this with Sourceforge or whoever produces their

    archiver."

For now, I am unsubscribing from the email list, it seems to only contain requests for invitations to this forum.

I emailed you yesterday, that is a sourceforge issue and it's obfuscation of email addresses on the mailing list. The option is and always has been enabled.
